BNR Artists
Steve Spurgin
Steve is from Texas — born and raised. He’s one of the best songwriters and singers on the planet. A multi-instrumentalist, Steve started entertaining folks with the songs of Bob Dylan and Gordon Lightfoot in the summer of 1965. Today, the songs he writes himself “seem like classics before the ink is dry” (Mason Williams, “Past Perfect” liner notes).
John Malcolm Penn
John is an old soul, both as a composer and performer. Whether singing about an 1850s gold mining camp, a 1930s aviatrix, or a long-abandoned roadside motel, he sounds like he was there. When John sings about an omelet, you want one. When he writes about a historical site or event, he does extensive research on the topic before putting pen to paper. And significantly, John sang every part, played every instrument, and wrote all the lyrics and music for every track he’s done for Blue Night Records! Oh yeah, he did the engineering too!
Don Stiernberg
Don has been a full-time professional musician for decades. He is a master of the mandolin in virtually any genre, an accomplished practitioner of the tenor banjo, and a guitar player extraordinaire. Don is universally regarded as the disciple and now heir apparent of mandolinist Jethro Burns (one-half of “Homer and Jethro”). He has shared the stage with such luminaries as Chet Atkins, Steve Goodman, Johnny Gimble, Newgrass Revival, and the Chicago Symphony.
Dan Crary
Dan Crary is one of the elite few flatpick guitar players who has earned “legendary” status. His distinctive playing style has made him stand out from the crowd for decades. The multiple awards and credits Dan has garnered over the years attest to his recognized status as a master of the steel string guitar. From his early days with “Bluegrass Alliance”, to “Berline, Crary and Hickman,” to “California”, to “Dan Crary and Thunderation,” and now with “Crary, Evans & Barnick”, Dan’s muscular pick and sonorous voice continue to break new ground.
John Carlini
Guitarist, composer, arranger and conductor John Carlini is a Berklee College of Music graduate with accolades galore: (1) Guartist, U.S. Navy Show Band; (2) Musical Director, Ice Capades; (3) Guitarist, David Grisman Quintet; (4) Guitarist, Great American Music Band; (5) Orchestrator, off-Broadway musical, Song of Singapore; and many more career accomplishments. He is featured in three Blue Night Records releases: (1) Angel Eyes; (2) By George; and (3) Further Adventures.
Dario Napoli Trio
Dario Napoli has emerged over the past decade as a titan of the gypsy jazz guitar style. He is equally adept in more contemporary approaches to jazz guitar. During the touring season he can be heard at music Festivals across Europe, the UK, and the U.S. Dario is also a talented composer, and the most recent artist to join the Blue Night Records roster. We consider ourselves most fortunate indeed. Welcome Dario!
